As kitchen designers, part of our philosophy is to not just create beautiful spaces, but to make life easier, too. Part of our process is to get to know our clients, and how they’ll be using their new space. Do they prefer to use their kitchen as a space to gather? Or are they passionate bakers? Knowing these details helps us design a kitchen that works with our clients’ daily lives, not against them.

For clients who love to cook and bake, we make sure to include design strategies that make it easy to keep the kitchen tidy and functional.

Here are 5 of our favorite ways to create a clutter-free kitchen space.

1. Create a Plan for Countertop Appliances

One of the biggest culprits of kitchen clutter is countertop appliances. While many of us rely on our toasters, blenders, and coffee makers daily, having them sit on the counter often makes the space feel cramped. To combat appliance overwhelm, one of our favorite design strategies is to include an appliance garage: a cupboard-like space that creates an easy-to-reach home for appliances, so they’re out of sight but just a quick reach away. With a simple roll-up door, you can hide these appliances and keep your counters clear.

2. Mixer Cabinet

If you’re a baking enthusiast, you likely know the struggle of lugging out a heavy stand mixer every time you want to make something. That’s where a mixer cabinet comes into play. This cabinet is typically equipped with a pull-out or pop-up shelf, allowing you to lift and lower the mixer easily, reducing countertop clutter and giving your muscles a break. When you’re done, simply push it back into the cabinet— no lifting required!

3. Lazy Susan

Corners are often underutilized or cluttered with random items that are hard to access. A Lazy Susan can be a lifesaver in these spots. It’s a rotating shelf that fits into corner cabinets, giving you easy access to pots, pans, or pantry items that would otherwise be hard to reach. Lazy Susans help make the most of every inch of space while keeping items neatly contained and organized.

4. Hidden Drawers

Hidden drawers are another clever storage solution that’s been gaining popularity. These are drawers tucked within a larger drawer, offering a place to store smaller items like utensils, spices, or lids. Not only does this help keep things organized, but it also minimizes visual clutter by allowing you to tuck away frequently used items out of sight.

5. Deep Drawers for Pots/Pans

Pots and pans are often awkward to store, and if they’re stacked in a lower cabinet, you might have to dig through to get what you need. Deep drawers solve this problem by providing plenty of room to store pots, pans, and their lids in an organized and easily accessible way.
