At Dovetail Designs, we’re firm believers that not all cabinetry is created equal. That’s why we partner with Plato Woodwork to offer completely custom cabinetry designed to the exact specifications of each kitchen we’re working in.
We think Randy describes our philosophy as kitchen designers best when he said:
“When we do a kitchen we’re not just going to throw a bunch of cabinets in your house. We’re looking at the floor material, the wall material, even the lighting. We’re not just selling you a bunch of cabinets and trying to fit them in what you already have… we’re going to make the whole space work.”
So, why are we such advocates for custom cabinetry? Well, so many reasons. Here are just a few:
1. Sizing
Once we determine the dimensions of the cabinetry in a home, we send a sketch to our premier cabinetmakers, Plato Woodwork, to build. According to Randy, “Plato will build us anything we want… unless it doesn’t make sense.” This process ensures that the cabinets you receive are built to the exact specifications of your kitchen, leading to optimal storage and maximizing on functionality for years down the line.
2. Craftsmanship
Unlike stock cabinetry, custom cabinetry features top-of-the-line detailing, including nicer finishes and cleaner details. For example, on stock cabinetry, the bottoms and inside of each cabinet are usually left unpainted, leading to a look that’s unfinished. Custom cabinets, on the other hand, feature a unique attention to detail that ensure the bottoms and inside of each cabinet are painted and finished.
3. Unique Features
Not all kitchens are created equal. As a result, we’re firm believers that cabinets shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all as well. Custom cabinets can be built to include features such as pull-out shelves, built-in organizers, specialized compartments, and custom lighting, optimizing on functionality and convenience.
4. Long-term Investment
While custom cabinetry may have a higher initial cost, their durability, quality, and functionality make it a smart long-term investment, reducing the need for frequent replacements and repairs.
