When a couple in Shelburne decided it was time to give their kitchen a much-needed update, it featured dated cabinetry and appliances that didn’t allow for efficient use of their space. They connected with Jenny and Randy for a full redesign.

Before the Transformation

Before its recent renovation, the Shelburne kitchen featured dated appliances and lacked efficiency. It was clear that an upgrade was necessary to make it more functional for their daily needs.

In the update, the client requested:

  • Increased functionality, including a more efficient “working triangle” between the refrigerator, stove, and sink.

  • Cherry and black cabinetry to match the rest of the house.

  • Quartz countertops, to pair with the cherry cabinetry.

The Transformation Process

The couple worked closely with Jenny to create a design that would not only bring the kitchen into the current era, but also meet their requests. While the previous kitchen had a mission-style design, they wanted something more transitional for their new space.

The key decision was to replace the cabinetry entirely, as well as add quartz countertops that picked up in the cherry wood coloring in the cabinetry. Hand-drawn elevations with colored pencils (drawn by Jenny) helped strike the perfect balance between cherry and black cabinetry. The couple opted for two-tone cabinetry with a shaker door style, blending cherry and black painted cabinetry to create a striking look with traditional styling.

The project also included refinishing the floors on the first floor, rewiring, replumbing, painting, and installing new appliances and light fixtures. These changes not only modernized the space, but enhanced its functionality as well. Additionally, the kitchen's layout was improved, creating a more efficient working triangle with just a 3-foot distance from the fridge to the cooktop– a big difference from the previous 12-foot distance.

This kitchen transformation is a testament to the power of a well-planned and executed redesign. What started as a dated and inefficient space has become a fully custom kitchen that blends traditional and modern elements.
